AGSI Appointed New Ontario Agri-Food Premises Registrar
HALTON HILLS, Ontario, Canada - April 1, 2012 - Angus GeoSolutions Inc. (AGSI) is extremely pleased to be chosen by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) to develop, implement, operate and expand the new Provincial Premises Registry (PPR), the official registry for obtaining an Ontario Premises Identification Number.
A Premises Identification Number is a unique identifying number assigned to a parcel of land that is associated with agri-food activities. In Ontario, premises are identified and registered in the Provincial Premises Registry.
Premises identification is a critical first step to building an effective traceability system. A traceability system is designed to track products through the agri-food chain. A comprehensive traceability system requires the collection, storage and sharing of three key pieces of information:
- Premises Identification
- Product Identification of animals, plants or food products as individuals, lots or batches
- Movement Recording of identified products between identified premises.
The benefits of having a comprehensive and effective traceability system include:
- Effective emergency management and
- Improved competitive advantage (market access, supply chain efficiency, buyer confidence).
AGSI is utilizing its Go360 technology along with the Location Warehouse to create a secure and easy to use registry, facilitating the capture and validation of premises information to enable OMAFRA to oversee, prepare and coordinate response to agri-food incidents. The AGSI solution also assists emergency response efforts by improving emergency preparedness, responsiveness and risk management activities.
The new PPR is officially available March 30, 2012 at www.OntarioPPR.ca. Agri-food business owners and operators can register their premises securely online, easily and for free. Registrations are also available by calling the toll free number: 1-855-MY PPR ID (1-855-697-7743). The website and call centre services are available in English and French.
